Southwest CEO Gary Kelly said temperature checks are a must to help convince travelers it’s safe to fly again.

Hawaiian said bookings for late summer and fall flights to Hawaii are down from usual levels but not nonexistent, as they are now.

Airlines took in $5.8 billion in bag fees and $2.8 billion in change fees. The 2020 numbers will be a fraction of that because of the coronavirus crisis.

United Airlines says it will have to lay off employees this fall if travel demand doesn’t resume by then.

MGM Resorts, which operates more than a dozen casino hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, says it plans to start with New York New York and Bellagio.

The airline is retiring more than 100 jets earlier than planned and says more may be ahead as it grapples with a dearth of passengers.

Southwest is taking steps to make passengers feel travel is safe, like offering hand sanitizer and possibly requiring masks and health screenings.

The New York-based airline said the new policy takes effect May 4. The airline is also requiring flight crews to cover their faces at work.

Airline unions and consumer groups say airline passengers should be required to wear face masks to stem the spread of coronavirus.
